MEPL BOV 2023/4 Opening Weekend Recap - Thirteen Winners

After a thrilling weekend, the MEPL BOV 23/24 Opening Weekend has revealed the top 13 EA SPORTS FC players on the island. In this short and sweet recap, we're diving into all the action and essential details. 

Open Qualifier - Joining the Veterans

First things first, 40 competitors signed up to go head-to-head in our very own Open Qualifier. At the Centenary Stadium Ta' Qali, the top 19 players distinguished themselves to earn a spot in the Last Chance Qualifier.

Notable names on these standings include the likes of Owen Galea and DuaneMercieca - players who have competed in the Main Competition in the past iterations of the MEPL. 

Otherwise, a healthy new influx of talent made for an exciting Last Chance Qualifier. 

Last Chance Qualifier - A Final Standoff

After six intense rounds of Swiss Stage competition, the top 10 competitors earned their spot at this year's Malta ePremier League 2023/4 Main Event.

  4. RapidBunny - (5-1

  6. Vli - (4-2
  7. Woncu - (4-2

Following the Swiss Stage of competition, three more matches were played with the following conclusions: 

  • Muwx19 (W) vs DuaneMercieca (L) 
  • Bajzu (L) vs Bonell (W) 
  • Kursten (W) vs Juventinato253 (L) 

These thirteen winners are headed to the Main Competition alongside Shaun "Brandsha" Galea, last season's champion. 

New Names in the Main Stage

In conclusion, while most qualified players do have a history in the Main Competition, the following are new names and their backgrounds:

  • Muwx19 - 4th @ Online Qualifier 4 (2023) 
  • Bonell - 16th @ Offline Qualifier (2023), 25th @ Offline Qualifier (2022), 33-64th @ Online Qualifier 3 (2020)
  • Woncu - 14th @ Offline Qualifier (2021), 1st @ Online Qualifier 2 (2020) 
  • RapidBunny - a Mexican international player studying English in Malta, 1st @ FIFA 22 Global Series Open - Mexico City
