MEPL BOV 2023/4 Opening Weekend Preview - Double Trouble

Thursday 4th January 2024, 05:49 | written by: Gabriel Sciberras

Following the epic announcement revealing the return of the Malta BOV ePremier League, the competition kicks off immediately. Opening up the competition to the entire nation, one epic weekend features both the Open Qualifier and the Last Chance Qualifier building up to the 5th season of the Malta BOV ePremier League - read on to learn all the salient details!

Open Qualifier 23/24

Unlike the previous seasons, where the Open Qualifier took place in heats in an online environment, the stakes are higher this year than ever. To specify, an offline competition between 64 spots will determine which contestants move on to the Last Chance Qualifier later in the weekend.

Seriously, as long as you are a Maltese resident aged 16 and above, and own a valid EA account with PS Plus and your controller, the stage at the Centenary Stadium Ta' Qali is waiting for you for the following dates:

  • Starts - 6th January 2024 @ 10:00

All the competition unfolds on the PS5 version of EA FC 24, Ultimate Team Friendly game mode with a double-elimination tournament format.

Once the dust settles, the top 19 players qualify for the Last Chance Qualifier. Notably, should any qualified players drop out for whatever reason, the top-ranked eliminated players take the spot.

A flurry of matches will occur until we have our top 19 players from the 64 possible spots.

Notably, the players earning a spot at the Last Chance Qualifier will proceed immediately to the next stage of the Malta BOV ePremier League 2023/4 competition

Last Chance Qualifier

Also hosted at the Centenary Stadium, the upcoming weekend also hosts the Last Chance Qualifier - the final step before the Main Competition of the 23/24 MEPL.

Specifically, 32 players are competing, seeded as follows:

  • 2024 Open Qualifier - 19 players
  • 2023 Main Competition - 13 players

Moreover, the competition looks to occupy the following schedule:

  • Starts - 6th January 2024 @ 15:00

Featuring similar rules to the Open Qualifier, the format varies here slightly. Notably, all matches are played over 2 rounds with the aggregate score being considered, within the greater context of a swiss round format.

Any matches that conclude in a draw go straight to penalties and extra time or a Golden Goal in the second match.

Once concluded, the last 13 competitors standing will qualify straight into the Group Stage together with Shaun Brandsha Galea the winner of last year's edition of the Malta BOV ePremier League. Again, any dropouts will be swapped for the highest ranked replacement.
