The Malta Football Association is teaming up with GMR Entertainment to create new opportunities and areas of collaboration in esports – the fast-growing world of competitive and organised video gaming.

The partnership between the Malta FA and GMR Entertainment will be launched on the first day of the upcoming Football Symposium with eFootball being one of key topics to be discussed during this innovative event.

“In line with the theme of the first Football Symposium, ‘Opportunities in the Digital World’, we will be focusing on the exciting world of esports, in our case eFootball,” Dr Matthew Paris, the Malta FA Vice-President who is overseeing the organisation of the Football Symposium, said.

“Our partnership with GMR Entertainment represents an important step to maximise esports opportunities in our country where football-related video games are immensely popular. “We are also confident that our co-operation with GMR Entertainment will help to further consolidate the connection with Maltese football enthusiasts.”

Kersten James Chircop, the Managing Director and founder of GMR Entertainment, said:

“These are exciting times for the local esports industry. We are pleased to see that gaming is being more accepted and appreciated in Malta. “We’re delighted to be partnering up with the Malta FA as this gives our industry more credibility in the eyes of the general public as well as opening new doors to local players.”

GMR Entertainment is a Maltese esports events company founded in 2012 by a team of local gamers.
